A influência, desta vez, era o bardo Van Morrison, de quem o grupo regrava Jackie Wilson Said (I'm in Heaven When You Smile). Don't stand me down, o último álbum nos anos 80, trazia canções longas e mais sofisticadas. Em 2003, Kevin remontou o grupo e produziu duas canções novas: Manhood e My Life in England (Part I).

"Come on Eileen
Poor old Johnny Ray Sounded sad upon the radio, he moved a million hearts in mono. Our mothers cried and sang along and who'd blame them. Now you're grown, so grown, now I must say more than ever. Go Toora Loora Toora Loo-Rye-Aye and we can sing just like our fathers.
Come on Eileen, I swear (well he means) At this moment you mean everything, With you in that dress my thoughts I confess verge on dirty Ah come on Eileen.
These people round here wear beaten down eyes Sunk in smoke dried faces they're so resigned to what their fate is, But not us, no not us we are far too young and clever. Remember Toora Loora Toora Loo-Rye-Aye Eileen I'll hum this tune forever.
Come on Eileen, I swear, well he means Ah come on let's take off everything, That pretty red dress Eileen (Tell him yes) Ah come on let's, ah come on Eileen, please. "

Assinando com a gravadora Virgin, lançaram o primeiro single, "White Boy", seguido por "I’m Afraid Of Me", mas o sucesso veio realmente com "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me". [editar]Discografia

Composição : Bob Dylan
Once upon a time you dressed so fine
You threw the bums a dime in your prime, didn't you?
People'd call, say, "Beware doll, you're bound to fall"
You thought they were all kiddin' you
You used to laugh about
Everybody that was hangin' out
Now you don't talk so loud
Now you don't seem so proud
About having to be scrounging for your next meal.
How does it feel
How does it feel
To be without a home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?
You've gone to the finest school all right, Miss Lonely
But you know you only used to get juiced in it
And nobody has ever taught you how to live on the street
And now you find out you're gonna have to get used to it
You said you'd never compromise
With the mystery tramp, but now you realize
He's not selling any alibis
As you stare into the vacuum of his eyes
And ask him do you want to make a deal?
How does it feel
How does it feel
To be on your own
With no direction home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?
You never turned around to see the frowns on the jugglers and the clowns
When they all did tricks for you
You never understood that it ain't no good
You shouldn't let other people get your kicks for you
You used to ride on the chrome horse with your diplomat
Who carried on his shoulder a Siamese cat
Ain't it hard when you discover that
He really wasn't where it's at
After he took from you everything he could steal.
How does it feel
How does it feel
To be on your own
With no direction home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?
Princess on the steeple and all the pretty people
They're drinkin', thinkin' that they got it made
Exchanging all kinds of precious gifts and things
But you'd better lift your diamond ring, you'd better pawn it babe
You used to be so amused
At Napoleon in rags and the language that he used
Go to him now, he calls you, you can't refuse
When you ain't got nothing, you got nothing to lose
You're invisible now, you got no secrets to conceal.

[editar]Discografia

Everything but the Girl(often shortenedEBTG) is a two-personEnglishband, currently inactive, and formed inHullduring 1981, consisting of leadsingerand occasionalguitaristTracey Thorn(born 26 September 1962) and guitarist, keyboardist, and singerBen Watt(born 6 December 1962).[1]
Watt and Thorn are also a couple; they are very private about their relationship and personal life. It was not a publicised fact for some time that they were a couple, or that they had married subsequently.[2]The duo have professed a strong desire to raise their three children with as much privacy as possible.
1985 view of Turners, with their inspirational slogan
When Thorn and Watt met, they were both attending theUniversity of Hull, and both had contracted with theindependent record company,Cherry Red Records, assoloartists. Thorn was also a member of thetrio,Marine Girls, and Watt contributed a photograph to the cover of their first album,Lazy Ways. The pair each had solo album releases through Cherry Red: Thorn's 1982 LP wasA Distant Shore, an eight-track mini-album. Watt's LP was entitledNorth Marine Drive.[1]
They formed a duo and adopted their name 'Everything but the Girl' from the slogan of well-known Hull shop, Turners' "[3]Furniture, onBeverley Road.[1]The store had originally built a window sign that read, "for your bedroom needs, we sell everything but the girl,"[4]the last part of which was later added to the shop's main signage.
AlthoughEdenwas released in the UK, a different recording,Everything But the Girl, was released in theUnited States. The U.S. release contained about half the tracks fromEden, along with some different tracks, including "Mine" and "Native Land".
Subsequent releases underscored EBTG's versatility and range. Their 1985 albumLove Not Moneyincluded a cover version ofThe Pretenders' song "Kid" (although this was not on the original UK release).
The next year they released the self-producedBaby the Stars Shine Bright, an album of original popular music songs recorded with anorchestra.[1]They revealed the album's inspiration by their choices ofB-sidesfor its single releases: songs fromBacharachandJimmy Webbon the12"versions (as well as a cover version ofPatsy Cline's "I Fall to Pieces"). The first single from the album was "Come On Home", followed by "Don't Leave Me Behind".
Tommy Lipuma produced the band's 1990 albumThe Language of Life, which featured the single "Driving".[1]Stan Getzcontributed atenor saxsolo on the song "The Road".[1]Next wasWorldwide, and its single "Old Friends" during 1991.
The duo were forced to curtailrecordingandtouringfor a few years when Watt contractedChurg-Strauss syndrome, anautoimmunedisease (he subsequently wrote a memoir,Patient, about his ordeal).[1]The next work of original music was not until 1994, when EBTG releasedAmplified Heart. ProducerTodd Terryremixedthe track "Missing", and when EBTG released the remix as a single, it became an international success.[1]It reached the top ten around the world, including the US, where it peaked at #2 in theBillboard Hot 100.[1]
The success of that track, along with a collaboration Thorn had withMassive AttackandDeep Dish, influenced them and helped usher the band into a moreelectronicsound. Having completedcontractualobligations to WEA, they were free to shop their recordings and had complete ownership of their future recorded works. They signed licensing deals withVirgin Recordsfor the United Kingdom and Europe, andAtlantic Recordsfor the United States and Canada. Their subsequent albumsWalking WoundedandTemperamental, showed the band's musical progress as well as establishing Watt as adance musicproducer.[1]Between the two albums he produced "Stars All Seem To Weep" forBeth Orton.
The group curated compilations of their material in 2002 and 2005, but there have been no new recordings as Everything But the Girl since 1999. According to Thorn, the group is "currently mothballed"[5]. Watt played guitar and other instruments for some filmed performances of Thorn's solo material in 2010 which have appeared on YouTube.
In an April 2011 interview, Thorn was questioned about whether she would work together with Watt, and do more Everything But The Girl. Thorn responded, "Yes, we do keep saying we are nearly ready to maybe do some work together again. There are certain obstacles, some practical, some psychological, that we would need to overcome. But it may well happen."[6]
Watt has concentrated on being aDJand producer/remixer, finding success as one half ofLazy Dogwith partner Jay Hannan, before going solo and launching Buzzin Fly records and The Neighborhood (a dance club). He has helped to produce two albums forBeth Orton. His latest track, "Guinea Pig", came out in 2008 and incorporated the vocals of Julia Biel.
During late spring 2005, Thorn recorded her first vocals in three years, on the song "Damage" on the album,Eat Books, for theGermanbandTiefschwarz, for which she also wrote thelyricsandmelody.
